As a desert newcomer, I had no idea what to plant. We tried things that were “pretty” when we bought them. But, after our first hot summer and winter with temperatures below freezing, I was frustrated. I thought I was moving to a land with continual gardens.

Deciduous winter plants and ho hum cactus did not fill our small yard with the color I was craving.
I’ve been there too
I turned to pots because it seemed like it would be easier. I went to the nursery to buy flowers for bursting color in my pots. I worked hard on those pots for two years and suffered the loss of those planted in the wrong space, the wrong amount of water.
I definitely had some successes but oh, so many failures. Money out the window - or into the compost heap.
